Piping
The bagpipes are know throughout the world and there is nothing more wonderful than the skirl of the pipes. If you have Scottish roots or simply love the sound of the pipes, then let Brian Yates entertain you during your stay at Evergreen.
Brian has been playing the Highland pipes for 37 years and teaching them for over twenty. A successful Grade I solo competitor and former member of the Manchester (Ct) Grade II pipe band, he taught pipes full time for twelve years in the top private schools in New England before emigrating to Scotland in 2005. He returns to the States each summer where his services as a teacher are still very much in demand at the North American Academy of piping. Many of his students have themselves become successful solo competitors.
Brian’s repertoire includes all forms of traditional light music, marches, strathspeys, reels, hornpipes, and jigs, as well as the more classical music of the pipes Ceol Mòr or Piobaireachd. If you prefer, he can also entertain you with the Scottish small pipes. If you have any favourite pipe tunes, just let him know and he will build these into the schedule.
Price:- £80 per hour. This is an all inclusive price which covers all tuning/preparation of the pipes, dressing in Highland dress, travel to and from Evergreen and playing. Additional time - £35 for each additional hour or substantial part thereof.

Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is an extremely effective therapy that has evolved from traditional techniques practised in India for over a thousand years. The treatment involves massage through the clothes to the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, face and scalp.
The massage works on these areas of the body, especially the neck and shoulders where stress affects major muscle groups, and it often brings immediate relief. Tensions are eased and fibrous knots and nodules melt away. The efficiency of the circulatory and lymphatic systems improves, toxins are dispersed from tense muscles, and flexibility and fluidity of movement is restored.
Indian Head massage rebalances vital energy flow, instilling a sense of peace and tranquillity. This simple massage has a powerful energy and is of real benefit to the receiver. It is both subtle and deep, leaving you feeling deeply relaxed and rejuvenated.

Acupuncture
Sometimes making the transition from ‘busy mode’ to ‘holiday mode’ may be a bit difficult – in such a situation acupuncture can help you to leave all that stress behind, allowing you to relax and feel more rested so that you can truly enjoy your holidays. Johanna Schuster, MAOM, Lic.Ac., MATCM(UK), is a registered acupuncturist and herbalist and practices both in Foyers and in Inverness.
In Chinese medicine, a harmonious flow of energy (Qi) is seen as the foundation of good health while any disruption of the smooth circulation of Qi will eventually result in symptoms and illness. For example, feeling stressed, anxious, or unable to sleep are all considered to be the result of a disturbed flow of Qi.
Acupuncture, a form of therapy developed over 2000 years ago, seeks to rebalance the body’s Qi. This is achieved by inserting very fine needles into certain points on the body. Generally you won’t even feel the needle being inserted, sometimes there might be a slight pinch.
While acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of conditions including chronic illness, it is also a form of therapy that most patients find deeply relaxing. It provides a wonderful opportunity to clear the mind and calm the soul.

Loch Ness Painting Holidays
Ros Rowell is a well established Highland artist expert in painting loose atmospheric paintings, mainly in watercolour, but also in mixed media and oils, in both traditional and contemporary styles. She is an expert in wet-in wet watercolour and her first articles for the UK magazine “Leisure Painter” will be published in 2011.
She has exhibited widely and is a trained teacher with over 20 years experience tutoring art to both total beginners, improvers and more experienced painters. She helps people capture the Highland atmosphere in their paintings.
Her teaching style is that painting should be fun and creative and she has expertise in teaching about the materials and methods that is very helpful for all levels of painter. She is expert at keeping a small group happy and creative and bringing out the best in people.

Courses are held at the The Highlandart Studio, Torness, inland from the shores of Loch Ness in a lovely area of sweeping hills and small lochs and only 5 miles from Evergreen. The Studio is a homely, comfortable building on a working croft and is situated in lovely scenery with wonderful views and Ros makes full use of this in her teaching. Most materials are provided, but you are welcome to bring any materials and equipment you prefer.
There is plenty to paint on the croft - the views, buildings, geese and ducks, flowers and trees as well as in the area nearby, and weather permitting , painting excursions are made locally and to Loch Ness. Light lunches and refreshments are included.

Ros's courses are very special in that she only takes a maximum of 4 persons per course. Many other courses will accept up to 12 people. By limiting the number to a small intimate group you can be assured that Ros will be able to spend the necessary one to one time with you to ensure an experience which is not only great value but also great fun and fulfilling
A motto that inspires Ros is that "Art is an act of creation, not of imitation". A holiday painting with Ros should hopefully inspire and enthuse visitors and encourage a love of the Scottish landscape and environment and art.
Painting holiday packages start from £450 per person and this includes 4 nights stay on a Bed and Breakfast basis at Evergreen and 3 days painting with Ros.
Please contact us at Evergreen for more information on accommodation or Ros at Highlandart for more information on the painting course you are interested in.
